Experimental and Numerical Simulation Analyses of Flame Spread Behaviour over Wood Treated with Flame Retardant in Ancient Buildings of Fuling Mausoleum, China

Abstract To protect ancient buildings from fire, prevent the occurrences of and minimise losses caused by fire to maximum extent possible, this study combined experimental measurements numerical simulations analyse flame spread behaviour over wood treated with retardants. First, some blocks were a nitrogen phosphorus (water-based) retardant, then smoke combustion experiment was performed test density. Scanning electron microscopy also employed observe retardant effect. Next, dynamic simulation software used simulate results yellow pine collected Long’en Hall Fuling Mausoleum, that The showed variation trend site’s heat release rate (HRR) time be consistent movement after its occurrence. Compared pristine wood, retardant-treated exhibited HRR reduction 53.1%. addition retardants reduced concentration released CO 2 gas, decreased temperature site, enhanced visibility.
